The Program
The Latino Financial Issues Program is a unique opportunity to learn about
community economic development, engage in professional networking, and work
in the Latino community.
In the two semester sequence and summer internship, students learn:
• Personal financial literacy.
• The policies and actors relevant to comprehensive
community economic development.
• Special challenges for minority and low
income communities in pursuing economic development.
• How business, nonprofits, government,
foundations, and universities can work together to help small business and
families create wealth and promote their long-term economic stability.
LFIP Scholars work in the community with high school students and small businesses
to teach financial and business literacy. They network with local, state,
and national leaders in community economic development. Professional development
workshops prepare students for summer internships and future job interviews.
Students leave the program with a portfolio of written work that demonstrates
their skills in writing, research, and analysis.
